Matt Hinton studied Religion and Philosophy at
Georgia State University and received a Masters degree
in Theology at Emory University. He began teaching
homeschoolers in 2000, when he designed the Sophia
Forum, a multidisciplinary humanities course. He
currently teaches Religion at Morehouse and Spelman
Colleges. He and his wife Erica are the directors of the
first documentary about Sacred Harp singing, which
aired on PBS and has been featured in TIME magazine,
The NY Times, Rolling Stone, etc. Matt has lectured on
the history of American hymnody at many Universities,
festivals and conferences, and has been featured on
several nationally syndicated NPR programs. He is a
ruling elder at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church (PCA) and
has two children, Anna (5) and Eli (2).
