Home Economics: Cooking

6th thru12th grade
Class length: 18 weeks Class time: 90 minutes
This class will primarily be a hands-on class that will teach the basics for beginning cooking students.
Each student will need to have a cooking kit, which includes the following:
Cooking Kit:
Apron (made during sewing class, or purchased)
2 Hot pad holders (made during sewing class, or purchased)
3 – Ring binder with dividers
Peeler
Measuring cups – full range
Measuring spoons – full range
Spatula
Paring knife
Pancake turner
Large mixing spoon
The book we will be using is Future Christian Homemakers Hand book, by Laurie Latour
The topics we will be covering are:
Kitchen Safety
Nutrition
Tools and utensils
Measurements
Recipes
Basic cooking skills
Creative cooking
The cooking projects we will be making are:
Eggs
Quick Breads
Cake and decoration
Ground Beef
Poultry
Fruit
Vegetables
Casseroles
Microwave cooking
Cookies
The students will be given homework each week as worksheets, or projects to cook at home. The parents
will be asked to sign a completion form in order for the student to gain credit for work done at home.
These at home projects will constitute 40% of the student’s grade.
Tuition: $200 or $40 a month, due on the first of each month January through May. Checks are to be made
out to Becky Humphrey. The family membership fee must be paid in full before the first day of class, or the
student will not be allowed to attend class.

I agree to enroll my student in the Home Economics: Cooking class. I understand that I will pay $50 on the
first of every month from January through May, $35 at time of registration for supplies, plus the non-
refundable registration fee of $20. I also understand that my student will need to purchase supplies for
class projects.

Dunwoody Classes
2009-2010
Family Membership Fee
The membership fee for Dunwoody Classes for 2009-2010 will be $75 per semester for one student and
$100 per semester for families with multiple students. The membership fee includes the facility fee and
unlimited choices of classes for all students within the family. Teacher registration and tuition are made
payable separately to the individual teachers. The membership fee is made payable to Becky Humphrey
and must be paid before or by the first day of class. This one membership fee and the teacher fees are
the only fees that will be assessed
