Course Description: The purpose of the Advanced Placement Psychology course “is to introduce
students to the systematic and scientific study of the behavior and mental processes of human beings
and other animals.” Students are exposed to the psychological facts, principles and phenomena
associated with each of the major subfields within psychology. They will also learn about the methods
psychologists use in their science and practice. Topics of study will include, but are not limited to,
Biological Basis of Behavior, Lifespan Development, States of Consciousness, Memory, Sensation and
Perception, Intelligence, Motivation and Emotion, Personality, Treatment of Psychological Disorders
and Social Psychology. AP Psychology is equivalent to an introductory college survey course. Students
will have the option of taking the AP Exam in the spring in order to try to earn college credit.
Students will be required to purchase their own textbook (Psychology- Eighth Edition by David G.
Myers).
Tuition: $65 per month per student
Fees: $30 (onetime fee for copies and materials)
