Course Description:  The purpose of the Advanced Placement Psychology course is to introduce students to the systematic and scientific study of the behavior and mental processes of human beings and other animals. Students are exposed to the psychological facts, principles and phenomena associated with each of the major subfields within psychology. They will also learn about the methods psychologists use in their science and practice. Topics of study will include, but are not limited to, biological basis of behavior, lifespan development, states of consciousness, memory, sensation and perception, intelligence, motivation and emotion, personality, treatment of psychological disorders, abnormal psychology and social psychology. AP Psychology is equivalent to an introductory college survey course. Students will have the option of taking the AP Exam in the Spring to try to earn college credit for the course.
